Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is when a child is bullied by another child through the use of electronic technology and social media. This may include; spreading rumors to hurt the victims reputation, sending harassing messages tirelessly, impersonating someone online and abusing their reputation and posting hurtful and embarrassing photos. Cyberbullying is a rising problem today affecting more and more every day. DoSomething.org says nearly 43% of kids have been cyberbullied and 70% report seeing it happen online. I think the numbers have gotten so high because of how easy these networks are to access for anybody. Many children have cell phones, accounts on social media and other electronic sources without being properly educated on the risks and responsibilities. This number needs to change as cyberbullying can damage a child, not just now, but for life. Children being bullied online tend to not want to go to school, go through a drop in marks and  fake illness. They may also start using drugs and alcohol, have mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression, start self harming and even commit suicide. I think cyberbullying needs to be taken more seriously as of how many are affected and the damage it causes and more needs to be done in the fight to stop it as it can ruin lives.
